Words of Wisdom: Quotes

A humorist (Henry Wheeler Shaw a.k.a. Josh Billings) wrote these words of wisdom: “There’s a great power in words, if you don’t hitch too many of them together.”

That is the logic and attraction of quotes: keep it short and simple to make the point.

Old fashioned American humor is brimming with quotes and sayings. Some are great. Some are ho-hum. We poured piles of them into our sifter, and shook it to produce a fine sampling of humorous quotes for you.

How can humor be defined? Maybe humor is what is funny. What is funny? You’ll know it when you see it, or as James Whitcomb Riley wrote, “When I see a bird that walks like a duck and swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, I call that bird a duck.”
